Mambu and Ishmael are friends, right? But if we had to pick one character who actually diverges from Ishmael, it's Mambu. After his stay in the rehab center, Mambu has no family to take him in, so he ends up joining the army again. He shows us the real danger that Ishmael is facing even once he goes to live with his Uncle Tommy. Without a family to love and support him, what could have happened to Ishmael?
