As a teenager, Paulsen was terrorized by a local gang that beat him up and stole his money on the reg. "Happy was built like an upright freezer and had just about half the intelligence," Paulsen says, and his associates weren't much better (4.20). Apparently, they had just enough intelligence to leave Paulsen alone once he obtained Dirk the dog's services as his personal bodyguard. Good decision, guys.
