Ship Breaker Chapter 10 Summary

  • Staring into the fire, Nailer thinks he has no idea what he's doing, or why he saved the girl. He compares the two girls: Pima, strong and scarred, and the girl, pale and polished with smooth skin.
  • Awake, the girl asks why Nailer and Pima didn't kill her. The girl realizes that her two rescuers gave up wealth to save her, and Nailer realizes the girl may be soft, but she's not stupid.
  • Nailer asks if others will look for her. Yes, she says, her father, who will pay more than the wealth on the ship.
  • Pima thinks the girl is lying, and the two try to figure out who's tougher: The girl threatens Pima with her father, and Pima threatens the girl with death.
  • Nailer realizes the girl is their ticket off the ship-breaking yards, and he tells her that she needs to take him and Pima with her when she leaves.
  • When the girl agrees, Pima says she's lying, and the girl swears a blood oath to prove that she's not.
