The Other Giants

You don’t get more straight-up antagonistic than people-eating giants. If the giants find Sophie, she can kiss being alive goodbye. So, just by being in the story and being hungry, the giants naturally keep the drama very high.

The giants don’t threaten the BFG’s life (until the last chapter), but they do bully him physically. They also make it hard for him to travel much. With their not-so-niceness to our protagonists and their hankering for human meat, the non-BFG giants fit the antagonist label as neat as can be.
