It's strange, because Darryl's a major influence on Marcus and his actions, but we don't get much page time with Darryl. So we want to say he's a companion/friend, but all the companionship has happened before the book starts.

Because Darryl inspires Marcus to fight the DHS, we're going with "muse" on this one.
