The Ear, the Eye, the Arm Chapter 14 Summary

  • Trashman isn't of much use since he can't remember where to go. The bus driver drops them all at Resthaven.
  • Tendai apologizes to the bus driver, just in case he gets in trouble with the She Elephant.
  • Don't worry about it, replies the driver. He'll get someone else to cover his shift and go on vacation for a while so no one suspects him.
  • When they get to Resthaven, the woman at the gate isn't sure whether or not to let them in since they are all dirty and gross.
  • Rita assures them that it's nothing a hot shower won't fix.
  • That's actually not what the lady was talking about, though. They are from the city—from the future. It might be 2194, but here in Resthaven, the clock is turned way back.
  • There are no holophones or traffic inside the village walls, and instead it's just like it was in the good old days.
  • Tendai, Rita, and Kuda are given a tour of Resthaven and told not to speak of anything from the outside world.
  • At first Tendai feels guilty for not calling his parents right away, but he's so tired from working and being in the tunnels that he just wants to rest.
  • Resthaven seems like something out of one of the Mellower's tales.
  • It occurs to Tendai that the Mellower must have a Shona shave. Otherwise, he wouldn't know all the stuff he did about their culture and history.
