Historical References

  • Winton Flyer
Boss Priests' Winton Flyer is the catalyst that kicks off the narrative's actions, so it's a pretty important part of the story. The Winton Flyer was an American motor company that began in 1897 and competed with companies like Ford and Dodge. It didn't last very long, as the last car was produced in 1962.
  • Yoknapatawpha County
Faulkner created this fictional Mississippi county, which appeared in all but three of his works. Characters from one novel often make appearances in novels in which they are not protagonists, adding to the illusion that the county transcends Faulkner's fiction.
