Character Analysis

The lone gringo in the novel, he's definitely a prime example of "nice guys finish last." He falls in love and proposes to Tita and says:

I don't want to put any pressure on you. I just want to assure you that you would be happy with me. (11.797)

Poor guy never stands a chance next to Pedro, though. Luckily, he's still willing to give her moral support and help her through some tough times.
