- Meanwhile, Edward is busy thinking about his own problems.
- Edward doesn't even care that Miles has been totally thrown under the bus by his own brother. He just cares about getting back to the palace.
- While Edward is busy worrying about getting back to the palace, Miles is trying to figure out what in the world happened at Hendon Hall. Lady Edith can't be lying, right? So why did she say she didn't know him? That trickster Hugh must've influenced her, right?
- Lady Edith enters the room again and talks to Miles. She's come to warn him—in very roundabout language—that it's dangerous to stay in Hendon Hall.
- Miles is determined to get Lady Edith to admit that she knows him. He takes too long to run away and is caught by the servants.
