The Two Towers Scene 37 Summary

  • Flags of the white hand now dress the walls of Helm's Deep. The fortress is all but lost.
  • Inside the halls, Théoden despairs but Aragorn hasn't given up. He asks the King to ride with him one last time as they try to give the women and children enough time to escape further into the mountains.
  • Théoden suits up and mounts up. He and our heroes ride out of the gate, bowling over orcs just as the sun rises.
  • We see Gandalf crest the hill to the east, with Éomer and his company of Rohirrim riders behind him.
  • With Gandalf in the lead they charge down into the valley and begin cutting through the orcs. It seems the tides may have finally changed.
