The Crystal Cave Book Two, Chapter 1 Summary

  • Merlin arrives on the shores of Brittany as a captive of Marric and Hanno, two random spies sent to Wales by Ambrosius.
  • Marric and Hanno still don't believe Merlin's story about being an illegitimate prince of South Wales. And they're not 100% sure they won't just toss him overboard.
  • But greed wins out, and the two men decide to see if they can't make some coin off Merlin. If he really has good info, Ambrosius will pay for it.
  • Meanwhile, Merlin's still puking his guts up below deck. These guys can't take him anywhere in that condition, so they leave him to make their way to Ambrosius with their news.
  • There's no way that Merlin's gonna hang around and wait for Marric and Hanno to kill him, so he makes his move.
  • Merlin goes all Jason Bourne on the situation and makes a daring escape out of the porthole below deck. The hitch? He's got no clothes.
  • Merlin makes himself a fashionable tunic out of old sacks and makes his way into a strange land.
