Marked Chapter 4 Summary

  • Zoey listens to her mom making phone calls to get the People of Faith prayer meeting started; soon people will fill their house and try to "fix" Zoey.
  • Luckily Zoey is prepared: She has a spare car key outside her bedroom window, so she sneaks out with her backpack, hops in her Bug, and drives away.
  • Her destination is her Grandma Redbird's lavender farm. It takes about an hour and a half to get there.
  • When Zoey pulls up it's dusk, and her body feels achy, tingly, and weird. She sees a note from her grandma saying that she's on the bluffs collecting wildflowers.
  • Zoey reflects on how her grandma always seems to know when she's coming for a visit. She's always been able to count on her grandma, which has meant a lot since her mom married John and everything started to be awful at home.
  • Rather than wait at the house, Zoey decides to go find her grandma. It feels like forever since she's visited, even though it's only been weeks. John doesn't like her grandma, and says stuff about how she is a witch and going to hell. Stay classy, step-loser.
