- He's a little skittish at first, but he warms to her quickly.
- She starts writing him questions to answer on a sheet of paper, and luckily, he does—turns out he knows English, too. Phew.
- Pearl learns that Amiel's favorite food is cangrejo, that he learned to juggle in Mexico, and that he lost his voice in an accident.
- She's not sure what type of accident, but at least she's learning more about him now.
- Before long, she turns to go since she has to walk all the way home.
