Dark Water Chapter 25 Summary

  • Pearl walks through the woods to Greenie's house. When she gets there, she finds Greenie and Hickey out on the porch drinking root beer.
  • They want to go to a club, but Greenie's parents won't let her because she'd get home past her curfew.
  • Greenie grabs Pearl a root beer and then invites her out to eat. They were going to go anyway, so they might as well celebrate Pearl's newfound freedom.
  • Pearl doesn't want to feel like the third wheel, but Greenie promises she won't be so Pearl agrees.
  • They go inside to freshen up since Pearl still has twigs in her hair from the woods. As she looks at her face in the mirror, Pearl thinks it's no wonder Amiel doesn't like her.
  • Hickey, Greenie, and Pearl get to the restaurant and wait around for a table.
  • Pearl's dad is there looking for her. He smiles and hugs her, which Pearl finds weird, but sincere somehow.
  • As they go outside together, Pearl notices that he has a new, snazzy car.
  • When she makes a snarky comment that the car's a whole lot nicer than their health insurance (which her dad didn't pay), he gets annoyed.
  • Cue the lecture from her dad. You know the one, where the parent goes on and on about how hard they work to provide for you.
  • Pearl gets what he's saying, but she doesn't think it's fair since he left.
  • In the parking lot, they see Robby and Mary Beth so her dad rolls down the window to say hi.
  • When he asks Robby what he's up to, Robby claims he's going to show his date three things she's never seen before. Challenge accepted.
  • Pearl's dad tells her that he got a new condo in San Diego so he can be closer to her—in fact, he was hoping she'd come stay the weekend with him there.
  • She's not so sure. She doesn't even know how she feels about him, plus he keeps saying we and our like he's already got a gal living there with him.
  • Pearl's not ready to face that, so she makes something up about having to work on a school project instead.
  • Her dad is a little disappointed, and drops her off at home.
